According to a comprehensive report by Group-IB, these compromised credentials were discovered within extensive logs of stolen information, subsequently being offered for sale on underground cybercrime platforms. Notably, India suffered the most significant impact, with 12,632 stolen credentials traced back to the country. Close behind were Pakistan, Brazil, Vietnam, Egypt, the U.S., France, Morocco, Indonesia, and Bangladesh. This widespread geographical reach signifies the global popularity of ChatGPT across diverse cultures and regions.

Behind the Breach: The Role of Info Stealers

The rise of info stealers has gained momentum among cybercriminals due to their ability to extract passwords, cookies, credit card details, and other vital information from web browsers and cryptocurrency wallet extensions. The success of these info stealers indicates a prevailing lack of adherence to essential cybersecurity practices such as using unique passwords and enabling two-factor authentication. Consequently, the logs containing compromised information collected by info stealers are readily traded on dark web marketplaces.

Enabling 2FA stands out as one of the most effective methods for users to protect their accounts, as it requires not only a password but also an additional piece of information, such as a security code sent to the user's mobile device.
